The Metric Tech Story

Dean's Story

Never afraid of hard work, Dean Phelps began his working career in the family construction business. Saving his money, he bought his first motorcycle, which he rode to school and work. Dean then took a job working in a small garage scraping gaskets, while spending his extra time working on his bike. From these humble beginnings his future was set.

In the spring of 2003, some twenty plus years later, Dean founded Metric Tech in his garage. Tired of the dealerships and the dealer pricing, Dean listened to his customers, left the dealership behind and finally opened his dream shop in McKinney, Texas; December of 2004. What started out as a small race and high performance shop has become the progressive shop you see today.

Dean has made sure that the motorcycle shop at Metric Tech is top notch with state of the art equipment such as the Dynojet 250i Dyno (with Eddy Current Brake and the Torque Cell Module), the Super Flow SF600 Flow Bench, and Serdi Valve Tooling to name a few. Metric Tech is set up for custom work with an onsite mig welder and tig welder. Along with a mill and lathe, Dean can create one-of-a-kind parts and accessories.

Catering to the customer and their motorcycle, each ride is treated as if it was owned by Dean himself. From service and maintenance to high performance and custom exhaust, every bike receives the same personal attention.

Known for his honesty and integrity, Dean does not believe in telling customers just what they want to hear. Dean tells them what they need to know to make sure they have the best running and most reliable motorcycle.

In 2002, Dean's race team, DFM Racing took 6th place nationally with his Yamaha Road Star Warrior in the Hot Rod Cruiser class with AMA Prostar. With this placing, he finished just behind 2 Factory Yamaha Teams with 2 bikes each and the 2001 winner privateer John Cornell. Currently, in his spare time, he is working on a Yamaha Road Star that he hopes to drag race this upcoming race season.

Racing with AMA Prostar and the friendship formed with Prostar owner Keith “Scooter” Keizer , led to Dean becoming the National Tech Director. This successful union has led to other ventures, Dean has gone to AMA headquarters and become a Certified FIM Technical Inspector. In September of 2005 Dean traveled to Bonneville serving as a steward at the International Motorcycle Speed Trials. It was Dean's responsibility to verify all the land speed records.

At this point in time Dean is devoting full time to his shop, providing the best service possible. Come in and look around, you will be impressed.
